Arrived to New Orleans and spent the evening watching Mardi Gras parades. Pictures coming up tomorrow, too tired now.. Checking into our apartment turned out to be a funny episode. We picked up our car at the airport - a nice cabriolet Camaro - and drove to the house where we were supposed to stay. The owner was not home, but told us to pick up keys from the mailbox. We did so and went into the apartment, which looked like someone had been partying there for a month smoking and drinking inside. After some confusion and calling to the owner we finally found out that they key actually works also to our neighbor's apartment.. Which we had been in. :P

In the morning we dropped our Yaris to JFK airport and boarded our flight towards New Orleans via Charlotte. Have to love the yankee fuel prices, we managed to spend $10 worth of fuel during our stay in NYC. When I was crossing the security at JFK a TSA security officer noticed my Finnish passport and asked if I'm watching hockey. "Finland is winning US 4-0 in the olympics" :) Thanks to the well-working wifi of US Airways the short flight to Charlotte felt even shorter. We will be continuing to New Orleans with the same aircraft, but had some time to walk around the nice looking airport, have a cup of coffee and scretch our legs beforet he second part of the flight. By the way, feeling the outside air being warm when walking out of the aircraft was lovely.. Hello again, summer.

Today was well spent wandering around the city. We were planning to get local SIM cards and the dive computer for me, but neither of those was acquired. The shop selling ReadySIM cards had quit, and obviously some of the other shops in here close at 1pm on Fridays.. for example, the dive shop. Well, I have time to get the computer later on. We walked around the city a bit, visited a Disney store and bought some plush characters for photo use (my Mickey Mouse was quickly modified to wear his pants on the head) and found a bomb squad car for Timo. At some point it started raining, so we decided to escape the rain to American Museum of Natural History. I had briefly visited the museum just a couple of weeks ago but that didn't matter, days could easily be spent in there. Also this time we didn't have much time in the museum, but.. Well, saw something at least. Now hanging around at our apartment, planning to drive to riverside later in the evening for some night photos of Manhattan.
Last night we took the GoPro for a short test drive outside, as we had to visit a grocery store for some breakfast incredients. The image quality seems to be really good compared to older action cameras, especially on the uncompressed source video. By the way, Toyota Yaris sounds lovely when the video speed is increased. :)Compressed YouTube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBJMpDyj2cs&hd=1There seems to be kind of a shortage of residential parking spots in our area, especially now as snow piles have taken over the streets. We ended up driving around and looking for a parking slot for half an hour..

Long haul flights suck, period. Once again the flight felt.. well, way too long. At least I had good time to watch a couple of movies on the way. Crossing the border was once again surprisingly easy, Timo got questioned a bit about his work (who's surprised..), but we were through the border controls in like fifteen minutes. We picked up our cute (or horrible) Texas-plated rental Toyota Yaris at the airport and drove to our apartment in New Jersey without any special events. Everyone is in serious coma, so a quick visit to B&H (the camera store) was enough program for tonight. Visiting that store is always a mistake, I "accidentally" bought a Gopro 3+ Black for diving.. :PBy the way, here is much more snow than in Finland. Actually really much on the streets, cars are covered by snow piles..
Arrived to Oslo airport after a short flight. Three hours to spend, and the airport restaurants are not exactly an option with Norwegian prices. ~20€ for a pizza slice and cola kinda sucks.. Well, at least they have free wifi in here, I can fix my blog code. :)

Urgh. Love the morning departures. Coffee at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, browsing for NYC dive stores, I need a dive computer. :)

It has been two years since our last multiple-week trip together with Timo, or actually with anyone. Time has come to fix that, we are heading to Caribbean for three week for some diving, flying and fun. The plan is to fly to New York first (Thanks Wideroe for those 250€ roundtrip tickets) and then head down to New Orleans as Miu wants to see the Mardi Gras parades. From New Orleans we will fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico and then continue onwards to US Virgin Islands.
