Subject: Post: Today was the second diving day. Unfortunately still nothing spectacular, the dive sites were in the same area as yesterday. Depth around 8 meters, only schools of small fish and some small pieces of coral reef but nothing more interesting. After the dives we checked out from our hostel and started wondering what we should next and where to go. The original plan was to continue to Belize, but.. There is not that much interesting things in mainland Belize. The islands are cool, but diving waters around them are not that much better and there is not that much things to do on the islands except diving and laying on the beach. So, we started searching for other options. There was a cheap flight to Guatemala City from Cancun and we would have plenty of time to explore Guatemala. However that would be a smart thing to do, and such things are a bit boring..For similar price there was also a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica tomorrow. It's a couple of countries away from Guatemala City from where we should fly home, but it would be possible to reach Guatemala by bus via Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador in reasonable time. Combine that with the fact that Cano Island in Costa Rica should be one of the best places in the world to dive, with healthy coral reefs and a lot of shark and other bigger fish and the decision started to done.Unfortunately Cano Island seems to be in the most remote area of Costa Rica: It can only be reached by road on dry season and even then you have to cross some rivers by car. There's an option to reach it by boat though, and that should be doable. So.. Somehow our trip to Mexico turned into a trip to the remote jungle wilderness of Costa Rica. :)I also emailed our old friend Eduardo from El Salvador to see if he would be home when we cross through the country. Unfortunately not, so let's see what we do. It's a good option to just spend some days in Costa Rica and fly to Guatemala from San Jose, there's a decently priced flight on Wednesday. On the other hand I still don't have Nicaraguan stamp in my passport and the country should be interesting. For the rest of the day today we took a ferry back to Cancun from the island, rented a car for the day and plan to visit the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Coba in the morning tomorrow. Just reached a nice jungle lodge some 20 minutes north of Tulum. Latitude: Longitude: Security Code:
